Mr. Cohen is the founder and principal attorney of the Cohen IP Law Group, P.C. He represents Fortune 500 and midsize companies, as well as emerging startups and entrepreneurs.

Mr. Cohen’s practice largely involves intellectual property prosecution and litigation particularly in patent and trademark matters, as well as other business litigation and transactional matters. Mr. Cohen represents and counsels clients in high technology, mechanical arts, manufacturing, fashion, retail, commerce, and various service industries. He is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office as a patent attorney and is an experienced litigator in all phases of IP and business litigation. On behalf of plaintiffs, he has achieved significant six and seven-figure judgments and outcomes in and out of court.  Mr. Cohen routinely represents defendants against various infringement and counterfeiting claims.  In one such matter, Mr. Cohen set aside a $1.3 million dollar judgment initially obtained by Apple Computers later leading to a highly favorable settlement for his client.

Mr. Cohen also specializes in Internet and domain name disputes including UDRP proceedings and cybersquatting and has successfully obtained preliminary injunctions against cybersquatters. Mr. Cohen is also active in rendering patent and trademark validity and infringement opinions in a wide range of technical disciplines. He has argued and prepared motions and briefs in proceedings before the United States District Courts, the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board (TTAB), as well as appellate practice before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC).

Prior to the creation of his law office, Mr. Cohen was an attorney at Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith, LLP, ranked among the largest law firms in the United States. During law school, Mr. Cohen prepared patent applications covering diabetic monitoring devices for Medtronic MiniMed.

Representative Cases

  • Batra v. Popsugar: Obtained a $2,115,000 settlement for Plaintiff, a social influencer, as well as other class members, against Popsugar in a class action lawsuit for copyright infringement, intentional interference with contractual relations and unfair competition claims, and other claims.
  • Dermalogica v. Target Corporation:  Successfully represented Target against allegations of trademark infringement, intentional interference with contractual relations and unfair competition claims, leading to a highly successful settlement.
  • Employees v. Travel Agency: Represented former employees in connection with invasion of privacy claims.  After a ten-hour mediation, we obtained a seven-figure settlement.
  • Unite Eurotherapy v. Walgreens Co.: Successfully represented Walgreens against allegations of intentional interference with contractual relations and unfair competition claims, leading to a highly successful settlement.
  • In the Matter of CARTRIDGES FOR ELECTRONIC NICOTINE: Represented a defendant in an International Trade Commission (ITC) proceeding brought by JUUL Labs, Inc. regarding allegations of patent infringement of vape delivery systems. We obtained a cost-effective settlement for our client.
  • Design Collection v. Kohl’s Department Stores, Inc, et al.: Successfully represented Kohl’s Department Stores, Inc. against allegations of copyright infringement and other claims resulting in a favorable settlement for Kohl’s.
  • Beats Electronics, LLC v. J. Dangoor Investments, et al.: Counterfeit claims brought by Apple/Beats. We successfully set aside a default judgment of $1.3 million dollars. This case resulted in a favorable settlement agreement for our clients.
  • Microsoft Corporation v. Anytime Techies, et al.: Represented defendant against Microsoft alleged to have engaged in trademark infringement, false advertising, cybersquatting, and other related claims. A highly favorable confidential settlement was reached for our client.
  • Cram v. Universal Pictures, et al: Represented plaintiff in trade dress and unfair competition claims against Universal. Resulting in a favorable settlement for plaintiff.
  • Reflex Media v. Internet Labz: Represented plaintiff, owner of misstravel.com, and obtained a $309,600 judgment against defendants for copyright and trade dress infringement.
  • Skecher USA v. Eliya: Successfully represented defendant Bernie Mev against allegations of patent and trade dress infringement involving shoe designs resulting in a favorable settlement for clients.
  • Moroccanoil vs. Royal Moroccan: Represented defendants against trademark infringement and unfair competition claims against a highly litigious plaintiff. Upon wining motion in limines just prior to trial, plaintiff was forced to settle in a highly favorable confidential settlement agreement for our client.
  • Estate of Michael Jackson vs. Heal the World Foundation: Represented defendants in a trademark infringement action against the executors and estate of Michael Jackson, resulting in a favorable confidential settlement.
  • Lions Gate Entertainment, Inc. vs. Upscale Homeless: Represented defendant, a start-up clothing line against a movie studio for allegations of copyright and trademark infringement. Obtained favorable settlement and dismissal of all monetary claims.
  • Inhale, Inc. vs. Oglesby & Butler, et al.: Represented defendant Better Life Products, Inc. for allegations of trademark infringement and cyber piracy resulting in favorable settlement and dismissal of all monetary claims.
  • Gorilla Nation Media, LLC vs. Media Mayhem Corporation: Represented defendant, a marketing and media company against claims of breach of contract and unfair business practices. Resulting in favorable confidential settlement and dismissal of monetary claims.
  • Sleep Innovations, Inc. vs. Sinomax USA: Represented defendant, a Chinese manufacturer of mattresses, in connection with claims of trademark and trade dress infringement. Resulted in favorable confidential settlement and dismissal of monetary claims.
  • Sierra Network, Inc. v. Nader Faraji et al.: Represented plaintiff against counterfeit infringement of Al Fakher hookah tobacco. Resulted in obtaining an injunction and damages against defendant.
  • Yuyama Manufacturing vs. JVM Co., Ltd.: Represented defendants, a Korean manufacturer of medical devices, in a multimillion dollar patent infringement litigation spanning several years across multiple countries. Resulted in defense verdict and attorney fees for Defendants.
